That'll be the Deicide!

Grud is Dead

James Swallow's script for this was terrific, really visual, giving a sound designer lots of clues and cues but still allowing lots of room for said designer to go badly wrong realising it. It's also very, very funny in places.

Toby Longworth and Peter McGuinness in particular, gave delightful performances making the whole thing a pleasure to work on, apart from the near nervous breakdown I had trying to indicate a hypersonic jet was in trouble for about 5 minutes of course.  It really makes you admire the Thunderbirds chaps who rose to this kind of challenge weekly - 'Screaming out of control machinery and audible dialogue?  No problem, Gerry.'

The main part of the jet in distress sound was provided by my wife's electric toothbrush incidentally, never look a tinny mechanical household item in the mouth, I say.

My favourite contribution to the play is probably the background Vatican chanters who turn up behind about 3 scenes intoning 'In Nomine Grud Patri, Jovus Fili, et Spiritus Sancti', all me with a variety of silly voices on, more or less buried in the mix!

Writer James Swallow will almost certainly have something to say about the play at some point, 'round about here... http://hometown.aol.co.uk/redwingproject/2000ad.htm

When a chance call to the Justice Department's snitch-line turns up two undercover Vatican Inquisitors and the foremost occult adventurer on earth, Judge Dredd finds himself at the centre of a plot that stretches all the way to the Holy City!

Somewhere in the Vatican's ancient catacombs, a ruthless age-old sect have discovered a terrifying secret that threatens the existence of the Church and the future of all creation - and to fulfil their mad schemes, one man must be sacrificed... None other than the debonaire vampire exorcist Devlin Waugh!

Alone and isolated, Dredd must face a sacred conspiracy and rescue Devlin before the fate of mankind! Can this unlikely duo challenge the heavens themselves, or will they fall before The Will of Grud?
